Food Vouchers

The JCC is committed to addressing food poverty within our community by distributing thousands of pounds every month through our monthly food voucher programs. Families in need can access these vouchers through a simple referral system, ensuring that essential food items are within reach for those facing financial challenges.

In addition to our ongoing support, the JCC organises larger-scale food distributions at crucial times before religious festivals and holidays. These initiatives aim to alleviate hunger and ensure that every member of our community can celebrate these special occasions with dignity and joy. Through these efforts, the JCC remains dedicated to providing vital assistance to those experiencing food insecurity, fostering a sense of solidarity and support within our community.

The JCC also offers preventative support programs aimed at reducing poverty by equipping individuals with essential work skills and training, enabling them to secure long-term employment opportunities.

Stamford Hill Magazine Loan

The Jewish Community Council (JCC) has introduced a new initiative in Stamford Hill aimed at promoting the recycling of weekly Charedi newspapers and magazines. The project, named the “Magazine Gemach” (library), encourages those who purchase these publications to donate them for reuse by low-income families.

Collection bins have been conveniently placed around Stamford Hill, allowing individuals to drop off their used magazines. Each week, a team of dedicated volunteers sorts through the materials at the JCC building, where families can then come and collect reading materials free of charge.

Levi Schapiro from the JCC commented, “While some families are able to spend £20 weekly on newspapers and reading material, others unfortunately cannot. As a result, many children miss out on an important part of their social and educational development. It is vital that everyone—children and adults alike—have access to quality and relevant reading material. We are delighted to roll out this new program and are incredibly grateful to our volunteers for managing the weekly rota.”

This initiative comes as part of a broader response to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, offering additional support to help families access essential resources.

Yachad Yesomim

Yachad was founded in February 2022 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, which saw many young parents tragically pass away, leaving behind bereaved children.

Yachad ultimate mission is to provide immediate support during end-of-life care, offering comfort to these children during their loved one’s final moments and helping them transition through their Shiva journey and beyond. Our commitment is to remain a steadfast friend and support system for as long as needed during these challenging times.

Crohn’s and Colitis Relief (CCR) was set up as a free service to improve the quality of life of people across the country affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as similar related illnesses. CCR primarily targets the Jewish Ashkenazi community where there is an exceptionally high percentage of people suffering from these diseases. Our work is dedicated to funding and delivering activities to support and relieve people suffering from IBD/IBS, and to improve their lives.

Since a diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease can initially prove overwhelming for a patient and their family, CCR’s dedicated group of volunteer support workers is available to help families to understand the condition, offer informed answers to questions and suggest further sources of support.
